BLOCH
It was 1932 when the first Bloch ballet shoes were made in a candle-lit workshop in Sydney, Australia.
Jacob Bloch, shoemaker by trade, immigrated to Australia from Lithuania in 1931 during the height of The Great Depression. Jacob noticed a young dancer struggling to stay en pointe at one of the local ballet schools. Jacob promised to make her a better pair of pointe shoes, and so he did.
Jacob’s reputation for making high-quality dance shoes spread rapidly. In the late 1930’s many large overseas companies toured Australia, Jacob made shoes for many of these visiting ballerinas.
His effort was so successful that it generated the creation of a full line of dance products. Bloch today is established as one of the most trusted in the industry.
